Benjamin Moore Agean Teal 2136-40

Every Fall paint manufacturers announce their colour trends for the upcoming year. Personally I rarely follow along. To me, colour is like perfume. It’s deeply personal. It doesn’t follow a trend. It is unique and specific to YOU. But this year Benjamin Moore announced Agean Teal as their colour of the year for 2021 and I was IN LOVE.

If you stopped by the shop looking for a paint colour, chances are I suggested Benjamin Moore Ocean Air for one of your rooms. I like it so much it is in our dining room. Ocean Air is a smokey sea foam that is light and airy but also calm and soft. Benjamin Moore Aegean Teal is on the same strip – just darker. It retains that beautiful moody sea foam quality but with a little more depth.

Where can you use Aegean Teal? Where can’t you! Use it in large rooms with a lot of natural light to make the space feel more intimate and cozy. In small rooms try it on an accent wall or a piece of furniture. It will look stunning in the bathroom paired with bright white tile, sink or tub and gold or brass fixtures. In the kitchen, add a pop of colour with an island in Aegean Teal or be brave and paint all the cabinets! Got old wooden stairs? Give them a new life with a fresh coat of paint in this stunning shade.

Because it sways towards the green/blue spectrum, Aegean Teal will pair well with warm accents of coral or orange. For woods, compliment this wall paint colour with light tones of pine, maple or oak.

In addition to the main colour, there are also complimentary shades in the Benjamin Moore forecast for 2021. Let’s look at a few of my picks below.

Benjamin Moore GRAY CASHMERE 2138-60: With the slightest hint of green, this shade of gray is perfect for contrasting white cabinets in a kitchen or white trim in the living room. It will also look lovely in the bathroom. Since it’s earthy, it will pair well with woods like walnut and mahogany as well as fabrics in linen and cream.

Benjamin Moore KINGSPORT GRAY HC-68: I love a good gray. Especially a moody one like Kingsport Gray. It’s deep, warm and earthy – more taupe than gray really. It’s perfect for creating an intimate atmosphere in a large living room or giving the bedroom an extra cozy feel.

Benjamin Moore MUSLIN OC-12: If you are looking for a neutral wall paint colour try Benjamin Moore Muslin. A warm light tan with a slightly blush undertone, it’s the perfect background for bright accessories, artwork or fabrics. On the darker side of beige, I would suggest this shade for larger spaces or those with more natural light.

Benjamin Moore FOGGY MORNING 2106-70: Think of this colour like pink for grown-ups. It’s a blush gray which will give any room a beautiful feminine glow. Use in the bedroom to create a warm and cheerful space.

Benjamin Moore ATRIUM WHITE OC-145: When white is TOO white, try Benjamin Moore Atrium White. It is a warm shade with a slightly creamy gray undertone. Use it on woodwork, kitchen cabinets, doors or trim. TIP: If you are using the same colour on the walls and the woodwork vary the sheen. For example, try matte walls with satin trim in the same colour.

Benjamin Moore SILHOUETTE AF-655: If you love dark moody tones then Benjamin Moore Silhouette is for you. It’s a charcoal with a brown undertone – think burnt coffee but in a good way. Not for the shy, use it to create a dramatic living room that’s perfect for relaxing or a home office.

Benjamin Moore ROSY PEACH 2089-20: Fall is my favourite season and this shade screams sweater weather. It’s a rich pink with a brick undertone. Use this colour in on kitchen walls, for a cozy living room, or a breakfast nook. Pair with warm metals like antique gold or brass.

Benjamin Moore POTTERS CLAY 1221: Another beautiful Fall inspired shade is Potters Clay. This one is more caramel. Pair with rich woods in the bedroom to create a warm space or to make a large living room more intimate.

Benjamin Moore AMAZON SOIL 2115-30: This colour is a deep gray with raisin brown undertones. It would make a stunning choice for an accent wall in either a white room or a room with light gray walls. Try it on a fireplace or one wall in the bedroom. You can also try it on the inside of shelves or cabinets for a pop of colour. This shade pairs beautifully with indoor greenery (faux or real).

Benjamin Moore CHESTERTOWN BUFF HC-9: Yellow can be difficult to live with but a warm gold is beautiful in the entry way or dining room.

Which paints would we recommend? For interior walls try Benjamin Moore Regal Select Matte Finish. It’s a premium paint with a built-in primer and great coverage. A matte finish doesn’t have a lot of shine but can still be cleaned. For deeper colours like Silhouette, Rosy Peach, Potter’s Clay, Amazon Soil or Kingsport Gray, Benjamin Moore Aura Matte will cover better in less coats. For trim, woodwork, furniture or cabinets we would suggest California Paints Ultra Satin finish. It’s a waterbased enamel with all the durability of traditional oils but in an easy to use waterbased formula.
