8 Ways To Get Your Home Organized

Staying home for a few days? There’s nothing wrong with binge watching Netflix (guilty) but it’s also important to go out in the yard, enjoy some sunshine and get a little fresh air.  Staying home can be a great opportunity to tackle those house projects that often get put on the back burner.   We are all now a bit more aware of keeping our spaces (both public and private) clean.  It is also a great time to declutter!  Below I’ve put together some simple, stylish and fun ways to keep your home tidy so read on.

Let’s face it – organizing is not a lot of fun.  The top drawer in my work desk is perpetually a mess and most days I can’t find a pencil to save my life.  But honesty, how can you not love organizing when these cheerful jars are staring at you?  They’re easy to make at home with this tutorial from Sam at Thrive 360 Living.

Speaking of organizing the desk, it seems like everything has wires these days. If you’ve ever dropped one behind a piece of furniture you know what a pain it can be to crawl on your hands and knees to retrieve it.  Binder clips to the rescue.  Attach them to the edge of your desk (or other surface) and thread the cables through for easy access.

Did you know we’ve been folfing our clothes ALL WRONG!?  Marie Kondo, a Japanese organizing guru, shows us a better way.  Instead of stacking our clothes on top of each other, try this method instead. That way you can see and grab that favourite navy shirt without making a mess of the entire stack.

And speaking of clothes, did you ever find yourself with a messy pile of dirty laundry EVERYWHERE!?  I swear ours grows on its own.  Attach a simple strip of wood with hooks to the wall and use bags to control and sort that laundry mountain.

A couple of days ago I needed some glass cleaner for the front door. When I opened the cabinet under the sink I was attached by overflowing cleaning supplies so next weekend I’m trying this hack – use a simple tension rod to store bottles of cleaner off the ground – doubling your storage space while keeping cleaning products within easy reach.

At our house we take our shoes off at the door.  It keeps the dirt contained and makes cleaning the house much easier.  Even if you don’t have a lot of space, you can still create a tidy corner for your family with some hooks and baskets.  We love this idea from Amalfied so head on over to their blog for a DIY tutorial.

Let’s face it – life can get hectic.  That’s when a GIANT chalkboard wall calendar can help you keep track of family activities, upcoming appointments and important events.  Start with a magnetic primer under your paint and you’ll have a wall that does double duty.  Learn how to make your own here:

Pegboards are another great way to stay organized – especially since you can customize the layout to fit your space and needs.  To build your own click here for the tutorial.
