WELCOME TO BERMUDA'S OLDEST PAINT STORE

My Favourite DIY Christmas Ornament Tutorials

I have no idea what happened to Summer, Thanksgiving is over, and pretty soon we’ll all be wishing each other a Happy New Year.  But before we say goodbye to 2016, there’s still the matter of Christmas to attend to.

I have to say I’m still adjusting to this whole decorate-the-tree-in-a-tshirt business.  Growing up in New England, we would bundle up and scour the tree farm for hours in freezing temperatures to find the perfect tree.  I don’t miss the frost bite but I have been known to get into the holiday spirit by cranking the AC in the living room while we decorate.

Over the years, we have amassed quite a collection of ornaments but some of our favourites are definitely hand made ones from friends and family.   It’s nice to know a loved one put so much time and effort in our gift.  That’s why all weekend I’ve been scouring Pinterest to find some of the best DIY ornaments perfect for gifting or keeping for yourself.

As you may know, glitter is FORBIDDEN in our house.  My husband hates the sparkly stuff so I’ve learned how to go without.   These felt Christmas Trees from This Heart Of Mine blog, however, are no less festive without it.  Click on the image below to see how you can make a forest of your own!

Who knew that those cardboard inserts from used paper towel (and toilet paper) rolls can be so festive? Recycle them into beautiful stars by using this tutorial from Love Of Family And Home.  Add a button or rhinestone in the middle for a sparkly touch.

With plain glass ornaments the decorating possibilities are endless!  These are stunning on the tree and can be customized with any colour paint to match the rest of your decor.  The supplies are easy to find and the tutorial from The Sweetest Occasion is simple to follow.

If you’re handy with Crochet needles, these star ornaments from Persia Lou will make a great present for friends and family.  They’re warm, cozy and will fit in perfectly into a rustic farmhouse theme.

Or you can make these wire ones from Alyssa And Carla.

Okay, there’s A LITTLE glitter on these but how adorable are these burlap covered ornaments from Bliss Bloom Blog!  Since the base is foam, they make a great kid friendly craft (no glass!) and you can customize them with your favourite holiday sayings.

Who knew that coffee filters can be so fancy?  How beautiful would these delicate white trees look on your holiday table or fireplace mantle!  Make your own by following the link below.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Christmas without lights.  Upgrade plain ones with this simple tutorial from Wit & Whistle.  You might want to recruit some friends, however, and beware of paper cuts!
