WELCOME TO BERMUDA'S OLDEST PAINT STORE

DESIGN INSPIRATION – Black, White And Gold

This past weekend I was fortunate enough to spend a couple of nights at The Refinery Hotel in New York City (it was across the street from a Benjamin Moore store – does that count as a work expense?).  The doors and woodwork were painted grey so I naturally fell in love with it but what really inspired me was the bathroom.  Not only was it really clean (that’s super important) but it was decorated in the most stylish combination of black and white with brass accents.  This totally got me inspired to research this combination some more and I found so many amazing spaces that use a similar colour scheme!

Hardware and accents in warm metals like brass and gold seems to be everywhere these days (certainly all over my Pinterest boards) and I love how designers are pairing them with high contrast colour schemes like black and white.  The combination makes a super stylish statement!  Not convinced?  Below are some of my favourite spaces – don’t forget to click on the images for sources or Pin YOUR favourites.

I always say if you’re going to experiment in any room of the house, start with the bathroom.  It’s small so it won’t break the budget or take a lot of time to update.  You can have so much fun experimenting with gold mirrors, cabinet pulls or hardware and a fresh coat of black paint is a great way to update an old bathroom vanity.

A couple of years ago I decided to update the cabinet hardware in our kitchen and it made a HUGE difference.  If you want to incorporate gold into your home, a great place to start is with the cabinet and drawer pulls.  You’ll be amazed how this small change can really make an impact.  If you’re a bit more ambitious and have a couple of free weekends, a fresh coat of paint on old kitchen cabinets is a great way to give your space a new look on a budget.  Looking for ideas?  Check out these beautiful rooms!

If you want to start small, try a table lamp, some gold office accessories, or paint that boring mirror frame. It’s a great way to glam up your space quickly and without making a big commitment.

Or you can go all over glam like this living room from Houzz.

While it might not be the obvious choice,  white and gold make a great pair.  There’s something amazing that happens when you combine a warm metal with a crisp white!  Throw in some black for sharp contrast and you get amazing rooms like the ones below.
