NO GLITTER Christmas Decor

On the way to work this morning, I noticed that the first shipment of Christmas trees has arrived on the island and now that I have finally washed and put away the last of our Thanksgiving dishes it’s time to start thinking about holiday decorations.

A few years ago, after being frustrated by looking like a Christmas fairy, my husband put his foot down and banned glittery ornaments from our house.  Even though I love glitter, it can be messy and stick around long after the holidays.  Just because you’re not using the sparkly stuff doesn’t mean you can’t have a big dose of holiday spirit and beautiful decorations.

If you want to get your home ready for the holidays without glitter, try decorating with natural elements like burlap, wood or ivy.  Add berries for colour and a chalk board for seasonal messages or greetings. If you must have a bit of sparkle try epson salt to give your decorations an icy touch no matter how warm it may be outside and use candles (either real or LED) to give you space a warm glow.  If you’re crafty make wreaths, ornaments or garland our of anything from coffee filters, wood slices or cupcake papers.

Your tree may be the obvious place to decorate but don’t forget about the bookshelves, windows, and if you’re lucky enough to have one, the fireplace mantle.  Hang ornaments from light fixtures or add bells to door and cabinet knobs.

Thank you so much for the visual inspiration! I have been struggling to get in the holiday decorating mood and this is just what I needed to start feeling like getting on with it! You are right about the glitter … It lasts long after the season is over and it can be frustrating to get rid of. Thank you for showing the alternatives to glitter!

    Have a great weekend!

Thank you for visiting! That box would be super easy to make from old wooden palettes. If you don’t want to use candles, battery powered string lights would give your decor a beautiful glow. Have a great evening!

wow, didn’t expect an immediate response. I already have a few skid boxes, I was using them as planters. I would not have thought to do this with them. I love the rustic look. Thank you.
