COLOR SPOTLIGHT – Benjamin Moore Classic Gray

At our house almost every room is painted a different colour (I LOVE changing colours) but I can certainly appreciate the consistency and simplicity of choosing only one shade for the entire interior.  The trick is picking the right one and with thousands of paint colours to choose from, a fun afternoon trip to the paint store can quickly become an overwhelming and exhausting experience.  After all, it’s very frustrating to spend your weekend painting the ENTIRE house only to discover that you really can’t live with the colour.

When you’re designing your new space or freshening up a room in your home, generally it’s preferable to pick your paint colour LAST.  Think of it like choosing the perfect pair of shoes to compliment your outfit.  However, I can completely understand that it may not be convenient to do so and the most practical time to paint can be when the room (or house) is empty.  There are, however, certain shades that will work with almost design or colour scheme.  Benjamin Moore Classic Gray OC-23 (or 1584 depending on the chart you’re looking at) is soft on the eyes, warm without being too beige, and light enough to work in both small and large spaces.

If you look at Classic Gray on the chart you may not think it has a lot of colour but remember that the paint on the wall generally looks half a shade DARKER than it will on the paper swatch and since light has a HUGE effect on how we see colours, I always recommend sampling the paint on the wall before making a commitment.
