Hello YELLOW – Sunshine On A Cloudy Day

After a string of beautiful sunny days, our weather luck was bound to run out.  Today was overcast, rainy and the evening cool enough to cuddle up on the couch with a blanket.  So while dinner is in the oven I’m making my own sunshine!

For me, there’s no colour more cheerful and happy than yellow but as with any great thing, a little goes a long way.  At home, too much yellow can be overwhelming and fatiguing to the eyes.  Since it’s a high energy shade I would leave it out of spaces you want to rest in, like bedrooms (and nurseries), but in small doses it’s perfect for punching up your home.

A perfect compliment to crisp white, yellow is also stunning with other high voltage colours like fuchsia, royal blue or kelly green but it also pairs well with neutrals like grey (try it for a modern look).

Don’t want to make a commitment?  Seasonal flowers or a bowl of lemons are an easy and temporary way to add a burst of colour.
