Heading To The Bedroom

First of all, I LOVE sleep and my husband is happy to confirm that if I do not have enough, no one is going to have a good day. As far as spaces go, the bedroom is the most private space in our homes and should be designed with colours and textures that make us the most comfortable. After all, its walls are the last thing we see at the end of the day and the first thing we look at when we wake up.
The focal point of every bedroom is of course the bed. Even if you don’t have a huge budget, you can give weight to this prominent feature with some creative decorating!
One of my favourite budget materials is palette wood (we’re always happy to donate what we have). After carefully removing the nails and sanding smooth, wooden palettes can be stained or painted to match your decor and create a great rustic atmosphere.
TIP: If you’re going to invest in one thing for the bedroom buy a couple sets of really nice sheets. They may be more expensive but because they’re made with high quality fabrics and a better weave they will wash much better, last you longer and feel soft and cozy for years.
Feeling girly? Cut a sheet of plywood to fit your bed, cover with padding and a vibrant floral fabric. Bright colours like these are sure to put a smile on your face!
Even if you’re not a pro with carpentry tools, you can still create a stunning headboard with tape and paint. Mask out a border in a bold shade then fill in the rest with a colour that contrasts your main walls. Finish with matching bedding!
It seems that there are always left over materials from those DIY projects. If you’re replacing old blinds, windows or doors, consider giving them new life as a headboard.
Love writing sweet notes to your loved one? Create a stunning custom canvas behind the bed and feature your favourite quotes, poetry, or personal thoughts!
In small rooms there can never be enough storage. Skip the side tables and instead use shelves to maximize the area around your bed.
Make the most of light coming into your room by using a large mirror to reflect sun and make your bedroom feel instantly larger and brighter. A large piece like this one is sure to add a dramatic touch.
If you love changing your design, consider hanging a large curtain behind the headboard. You can change the pattern frequently to match a new pair of sheets or wall paint colour. Plus, it really makes the furniture stand out!
