GOLD – When Yellow Is Just Too Strong

When choosing a new wall paint colour the fan deck is a great place to start but it’s no secret that colours can look dramatically different on the wall then they look on a swatch.  This is especially true with yellow.  If your room has a lot of natural light,  a cheerful yellow can quickly become electric and overpowering.   A soft gold is a great compromise.  It’s warm and cozy but won’t make your room feel dark and dreary.  Pair it with other earth tones like brick red, rusty orange or sage green and add rich leather and warm wood.

If you’re overwhelmed by all the colour choices in fan deck, a good place to start is the historical collection of our favourite paint brand.  Two of my favourites are the Benjamin Moore Historical Collection and Williamsburg Colors.

For inspiration, here are some great spaces from Houzz.

I loved gold when I lived in Pittsburgh and thought I’d love it when I moved to North Carolina – nope – had to repaint. It’s still a great warming color for the home 🙂
