WECOME HOME – Beautiful Entries

The entry is not only the first room we come home to at the end of the day but also the first space in our home that greets our guests. Whether your style is traditional, modern or somewhere in between there are a couple of things to think about when planning this space.
Keeping a room organized is one of the best ways to make it look larger and more open. Create a mudroom with plenty of hooks for coats and bags, add brightly coloured storage containers for keys, sunglasses and other small items, and dedicate a space for shoes and boots. If you take your shoes off at the front door don’t forget a bench for comfort or if you prefer to leave your shoes on, put down a stylish mat to clean off any outside dirt. For a more streamlined look try a narrow sideboard or desk with a seat and a lamp in a fun colour to draw the eye. If your entry feels dark, hang a mirror to reflect light (sunlight or artificial).
Because people will inevitably mark up the walls with their shoes or hands, choose a durable washable premium paint in an eggshell finish. We love Benjamin Moore Aura because it covers better in darker colours and dries to a hard finish that can be cleaned repeatedly. And speaking of colour – don’t forget to have a little fun! The front door is a great place to start. Paint it a bold colour like cobalt blue, cherry red or sunny yellow!
