DIY At Home – Painting Doors PART 2

As you saw in the previous post, I have spent a better part of the week painting our interior doors white. To do that I had to take the doors off the hinges which was the perfect opportunity to update the hardware. After all it wouldn’t make much sense to hang freshly painted doors on rusty old hinges.
Since preparation is very important when painting rusty (or bright) metal, I sanded the hinges well with 240 grit sandpaper.
After cleaning off any sanding dust, they got a coat of a two part epoxy primer. Since two part paints are always stronger and more durable this guarantees me a high level of protection from corrosion for years.
I left the primer to dry for a few hours then sprayed on three coats (about 15 minutes apart) of Rustoleum paint in satin nickel to match the door handles. I laid my hinges flat on a box and turned it around after each coat to make sure I hit them evenly from all angles.
These freshly painted hinges will be perfect compliment to our bright white new doors!
