New Room For Baby – Beyond Pink And Blue

Getting ready for a new addition to your family is an exciting (and busy) time.  But it’s also a great opportunity to have some fun with your home!

While it’s tempting to start decorating the nursery by painting the walls first the one piece of advice we give our customers most often is to pick the paint colour LAST.  Start with furnishings, fabrics, and accessories and let them dictate the style and colour scheme for the space.  With everything in place, you’ll be in a better position to choose a complimentary wall colour.

Speaking of colours, don’t limit yourself to blue and pink.  There are thousands of colours to choose from!  Try a modern shade like grey and add brightly coloured artwork, toys and fabrics. Or if you prefer a more traditional colour, look for soft greens, violets, or yellows.

TIP:  Bright yellow might sound like a fun and cheerful colour for the nursery but since it’s such a high energy colour it can keep babies (and parents) awake.  If you love yellow try a softer version like a light gold instead and save the bright colours for the playroom.

What kind of paint is best for baby?  Look for environmentally friendly formulas that are either low or zero VOC in a washable finish like eggshell.  Our favourites are Benjamin Moore Aura (for best coverage in deeper colours) and Regal Select as well as Muralo Breathe Safe.  Both area easy to keep clean and no smell.
