There are thousands of colours out there and choosing a scheme can quickly become overwhelming. To narrow down your choices start with taking your temperature. Do you prefer cool modern shades like icy blues and silvery grays or warm traditional tones like warm neutrals, greens or reds?
Do you have a treasured pictures, accessory or fabric? Use those colours as the base for your design but try not to match the colours exactly. Try a lighter version of the colours in your accents or a complimentary shade for balance. For example, orange and blue or grey and yellow make a terrific pair.
Still stuck? Open up your closet. You’ll quickly see which colours you’re attracted to and chances are the shades in your favourite outfit will translate great to your walls. As an example, we used the beautiful summer colours in this dress from Anthropology. TIP: Neutrals walls make a great background for colourful accessories and fabrics.
